Where Is Everything?

Students look at a picture, and describe the location of items using prepositions of place.

Level:  Elementary

Grammar:  Prepositions of place

Time:  20 minutes


  • Prepare a picture with many items.
  • Make one copy of the picture for each group.



Ask the students to get into groups of 4 or 5 people.


Give one copy of the picture to each group.


Ask the students to describe the location of the items in the picture in their groups. Allow about 5 minutes for group discussion.


Then, ask the groups, one by one, to say the location of an item in the picture. Go around the room until a group cannot name an additional item.

For example:

The pen is on the desk.


When a group cannot name an additional item, they are out. Continue until there is only one group remaining.
