Thanksgiving Jeopardy

Thanksgiving Jeopardy

Students learn about Thanksgiving by playing a whole-class jeopardy-style quiz show.

Level:  Intermediate

Topic:  Thanksgiving

Time:  45 minutes

  • Draw a 5 x 6 table on the board. Label the first row of boxes: Dates, Food, American history, True or false, The pilgrims. Label each column with numbers from top to bottom: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500.
  • Make one copy of the Key for the teacher.

Ask the students to get into groups of 4 or 5 people.

Explain that the categories represent the type of question, and the numbers represent the difficulty (e.g., Dates for 100 is an easier question than Dates for 500).

Read the first question from the Key (e.g., Dates for 100). Any group can try to answer. The first group to raise their hand can answer the question.

If the group answers the question correctly, they can get the number of points written (e.g., they get 100 points for the question Dates for 100). If the group answers the question incorrectly, they lose the points (e.g., minus 100 points). Keep track of points on the board.

The group that answers the question correctly can choose the next category. Categories can only be chosen in order (e.g., History for 500 can not be chosen before History for 400).

The winner is the group with the most points at the end of the game.
