Tell Us About

Students use conversation questions to speak for one minute about a topic.

Level:  Intermediate

Topic:  Speaking activities

Time:  20 minutes

  • Make one copy of the Conversation Cards for each group, and cut as indicated.
  • A timer for each group.

Students get into groups of 4 to 5 people.

Give a set of Conversation Cards and a timer to each group, and have the students put the cards in a pile face down.

The first student takes a card and asks the student on his or her right, “Tell us about…. (insert information from card).”

For Example:

Tell us about a country you would like to visit.

The student answers the question and speaks for one minute about the topic.

When the student is finished speaking, he or she takes the next card, and asks the person on his or her right.

Continue until all the cards have been used.

Extended Practice

Give each student an index card. Ask students to write an original conversation question on the card. Collect the cards and use them for the next Tell Us About activity.
