Find Someone Who

Students find someone in the class who can do the activity on the worksheet. A speaking activity using the grammar point, can.

Level:  Elementary

Topic:  Ability

Time:  30 minutes

Preparation

  • Make one copy of the Handout for each student.

Procedure

Give each student a Handout.

Review the vocabulary on the Handout.


Play the guitar

Cook

Drive a car

Play tennis

Sing a song

Bake a cake

Swim

Dance

Ski

Paint a picture

Ride a bike

Play the piano

Play the violin

Use a computer

Rollerblade

Students stand up and get a partner. Their task is to choose an activity from the handout and ask a partner if they can do the activity. If their partner can do the activity, then they write the name of their partner in the square.


For example:

A: Can you bake a cake?

B: Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

Continue until the students find someone in the class who can do each activity on the handout.

Extended Practice

  • Ask the students about their classmates, “Can Sarah paint a picture?” 
  • Students respond, “Yes, she can. / No, she can’t.”
