Draw The House

Students listen to the teacher describe a house, and draw the picture. A listening activity using prepositions of place.

Level:  Elementary

Grammar:  Prepositions of place

Time:  20 minutes

  • Make one copy of the Key for the teacher.

Pre-teach the following prepositions:

to the right of, to the left of, on top of, in front of, in

Ask the students to get into groups of 4 people. Ask students to get one piece of paper per group.

Ask the groups to choose who will be first, second, third, and fourth in the group.

Explain to the students that they will hear 8 sentences (from the Key). After each sentence, they need to draw what they heard. Each person will have two chances to draw.

The first person draws after hearing the first sentence, and then passes the paper to the second person. The second person draws after hearing the second sentence, and then passes the paper to the third person. Continue in this way for each sentence until students have heard all 8 sentences.

When the students finish drawing the picture, tell them to turn the paper over. Students write numbers 1 – 5 on the back of their paper.

Read the questions on the Key. Students write yes or no to answer the questions.

Check the answers as a class.
