Charades

Charades

Students act out an activity from a topic card. Team members try to guess what the student is doing. A speaking activity using the present continuous.

Level:  Elementary

Topic:  Daily activities

Grammar:  Present continuous

Time:  20 minutes

Preparation

  • Make one copy of the Conversation Cards, and cut as indicated.
  • Write on the board:

    A: What am I doing?

    B: Are you ______ + ing?

Procedure

Divide students into two groups.

Ask the students to number each person in the group.

Ask Student #1 from each group to leave the room. Show Student #1 one of the Conversation Cards.

Student #1 returns to his or her group, and gestures the action from the card.


For example:

Student #1: What am I doing?

Other students: Are you _____+ing?

The first group to guess correctly gets a point. Keep track of points on the board.

Continue with Student #2, and so on until each student has had a chance to play.

The group with the most points is the winner.
