Describe A Classmate

Students use physical appearance vocabulary to describe someone in the class. Students work in groups to guess the student being described.

Level:  Elementary

Topic:  Describing people

Grammar:  Simple present

Time:  15 minutes

Preparation

  • Prepare slips of paper with the name of each student.

Procedure

Review vocabulary for describing physical appearance.


For example:

He is short / medium height / tall.

He has short hair / medium length hair / long hair.

He has blonde / light brown / dark brown / black / grey hair.

His eyes are blue / green / hazel / brown.

Give one slip of paper to each student containing the name of another student in the class. Ask the students to keep the information on the paper a secret.

Students get into groups of 4 to 5 people.

The first student in the group describes the physical appearance of the person on his or her slip of paper. The other students in the group listen and try to guess who is being described.

Continue until each person in the group has finished.
