Visual Aid Speech

Visual Aid Speech

Students prepare and deliver a visual aid speech. Includes handout, list of speech topics and peer evaluation form.

Level:  Intermediate

Topic:  Visual Aids

Time:  60 minutes

  • Make one copy of the Visual Aid Speech Handout for each student.
  • Make one copy of the Visual Aid Speech Topics, and cut as indicated.
  • Make one copy of the Peer Evaluation Form for each student.

Give each student the Visual Aid Speech Handout. Read the Handout together as a class.

Randomly give each student one topic from the Visual Aid Speech Topics.

Ask students to decide the best method of presenting the information (e.g., bar graph, pie chart, map, etc.), and draw a simple sketch.

Give students around 5 minutes to prepare their speech with a simple outline, which introduces, explains, and emphasizes the key points of their visual aid, as explained on the Handout.

Pass out the Peer Evaluation Form to each student. The audience’s task is to watch each speech and take notes.

Ask the first student to go to the front of the classroom and give a speech.

Continue with each student until all the students have had a chance to give a speech.

Discuss each speech together as a class.

Extended Practice

Ask students to prepare slides using Power Point, and present the information again in the next lesson.
