Had You Ever Lived Abroad Before?
Students imagine a conversation from a past perfect sentence which is out of context.
Grammar: Past perfect
Time: 20 minutes
- Make one copy of the Conversation Cards, and cut into strips.
Students get into six groups.
Give one strip to each group.
Ask the students to imagine a conversation that would use the sentence on the strip. Students create a conversation involving all the group members and the sentence strip.
For example: Had you seen it before?
A: I didn’t enjoy the movie last night.
B: Why? Had you seen it before?
A: No, I hadn’t. I just thought the story was predictable.
C: Really? I was on the edge of my seat!
Ask the groups to present their conversations to the class.
Ask the students to write their own sentence or question using the past perfect. Collect the student samples and redistribute to the groups for more practice.
