Family Values Board Game

Family Values Board Game

Students use family vocabulary and question prompts to talk about family values. Students play the board game in groups.

Level:  Elementary

Topic:  Family

Time:  30 minutes

  • Make one copy of the Game Board for each group.
  • Make one copy of the Conversation Cards for each group, and cut as indicated.

Students get into groups of 4 or 5 people.

Give a Game Board and a set of Conversation Cards to each group.

Ask students to get two coins for their group, and a space marker for each person.

How to use the coins:

Heads, heads = move 1

Tails, tails = move 2

Heads, tails = move 3

Students put their space markers on Start. The first student flips the two coins, moves the corresponding number of spaces on the game board, and follows the instructions.

  • Go again = flip the two coins again and move the corresponding number of spaces on the board.
  • Go back = move the designated number of spaces backward on the board.
  • Go ahead = move the designated number of spaces forward on the board.
  • Trade places = trade places (space markers) with another person on the board.
  • Arrow = follow the arrow to jump ahead on the board.
  • Card = take a card and answer the question on the card.
  • Blank space = relax. Play moves on to the next player.

Students continue taking turns. The first student to reach Finish is the winner.

For early finishers, students can choose one card to have a longer discussion about family values.
