Don't Say It

Don't Say It

Students describe a vocabulary word without using the word itself or the listed four additional words, similar to the game Taboo.

Level:  Intermediate

Topic:  Warmer

Time:  20 minutes

Preparation

  • Make one copy of the Conversation Cards for the teacher.
  • Optional: Prepare the Power Point presentation.

Procedure

1

Divide students into groups of 4-6 people.

2

Ask students to number each person in the group.

3

Ask student #1 from each group to sit in a chair with his or her back to the board.

4

Write the first word on the board and the four additional words.

For Example:

Out
In
Exit
Leave
Go

5

Students try to describe the word on the board to the one student with his or her back to the board without saying the four additional words - "Don't Say It."

6

The first team to guess the word on the board gets a point.

7

Continue with student #2, and so on, until each student has had a chance to play.

8

The team with the most points is the winner.

That's it?!! Only one sheet? My students love playing Taboo. I thought there would be a continuing supply of Don't Say It sheets.
