About The Teacher

Students write a sentence about the teacher on the board. An introduction writing activity for students to get to know their new teacher.

Level:  Any

Topic:  Icebreakers

Time:  20 minutes

  • Write the teacher's name on the board.
  • A piece of paper and a pen or pencil for each student.

Welcome the new students and introduce your name only. Explain that you are not going to introduce anything else about yourself. It is the students’ task to create a story about the teacher.

For example:

Where am I from?

What’s my favorite color?

What kind of food do I like?

How many children do I have?

What countries have I visited?

Give the students about 5 minutes to brainstorm and write sample sentences on their paper.

Then, ask the students to come to the board and write 1 sentence about the teacher. Encourage students to write unique, original sentences that other students haven’t written. Students go back to their seats when they finish writing their sentences.

Read each sentence on the board and let the students know whether the sentence is true or not, embellishing if possible. As you read the sentences, be sure to make corrections on the board.

This activity will give you an idea of the students’ writing ability and allow the students to have fun getting to know the teacher.

Extended Practice

Ask the students to write a paragraph or create a story about the teacher from the sentences on the board.
