Introduction Dice Game

Students play a dice game to get to know each other. Each number represents a different task. Includes game cards.

Level:  Any

Topic:  Icebreakers

Grammar:  Wh questions

Time:  30 minutes

Preparation

  • Make one copy of the conversation cards for each group of six students, and cut as indicated.
  • Dice
  • Write the rules on the board

1. Take card, answer

2. Ask teacher

3. Take card, ask right

4. Skip

5. Take card, ask left

6. Reverse

Procedure

Ask the students to get in groups of six people, and sit in a circle.

Give one set of cards to each group, and ask the students to put the cards face down.

Explain the rules of the dice game.


1. Take card, answer the question yourself, keep the card

2. Ask the teacher an original question

3. Take card, ask the person on your right, give them the card

4. Skip the next person

5. Take card, ask the person on your left, give them the card

6. Reverse the game

Ask the students to take turns rolling the die to decide the first person to play. The student who rolls the highest number goes first, and then the game continues clockwise.

Continue the game until all the cards have been used.

Students get one point for each card they collected. The student with the least cards is the winner.

Ask the winner to stand up and give a one-minute self-introduction.

Extended Practice

Collect the cards and pass them out to the students. Ask the students to write a one-paragraph introduction about themselves based on the question on their card.

-OR-

Ask the students to try to remember as much information as possible about their classmates, and write a one-paragraph introduction about one of their classmates.
